SL vs BAN 2025: Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of Bangladesh T20Is with hamstring injury
The first T20I will happen on July 10 at Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy.
Sri Lanka will be without their star leg-spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 10. Hasaranga sustained a hamstring injury on his right leg while batting during the final ODI of the recently concluded three-match series, and was ruled out for the T20I phase of the all-format series.
Hasaranga played a crucial role in Sri Lanka's 2-1 ODI series win, especially in the first ODI, where he helped turn the game in the hosts’ favour by triggering a record collapse from the visitors. Despite picking up the injury in the final ODI, he still managed to bowl and delivered an impressive spell, taking 2 for 35. He finished the series with nine wickets in three matches at an outstanding average of 11.67.
In the final ODI, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 285/7, powered by Kusal Mendis' commanding 124 off just 115 balls and Charith Asalanka’s steady 58, with the duo adding 124 runs for the fourth wicket. In response, Bangladesh collapsed to 186 all out in 39.4 overs. The hosts' fast bowlers, Asitha Fernando (3/33) and Dushmantha Chameera (3/51), decimated the top order to seal the win and the series.
Who will win today’s 1st T20I match between SL and BAN?
With Hasaranga ruled out, the Charith Asalanka-led side has decided not to name a replacement and go with a shortened squad into the 20-over leg of the series. He will return to Colombo to begin his rehabilitation at the High Performance Center.
Asalanka will lead the Sri Lankan side for the T20I series. The squad features several changes from the team that faced New Zealand earlier this year, as Sri Lanka looks to regroup ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
The three encounters will be played across three venues — the first match will be held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy on July 10, the second in Dambulla on July 13, and the final one at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on July 16 to wrap things up.
