The second day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and India was heavily affected by rain, with only one full session and one half-session of play possible at Galle. India finished Day 2 on 460/9 in 116 overs, with Devdutt Padikkal scoring a brilliant 167 off 230 balls, while Dhruv Jurel also contributed with a half-century.

For Sri Lanka, the spinners had a productive day as the rain-affected conditions assisted the pitch. They picked up crucial wickets and kept the Indian batters from scoring as freely as they would have liked. India are in a strong position at the end of Day 2. Whether they choose to declare overnight remains to be seen on Day 3, with Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna unbeaten at the crease.

Top batting performances of the match — Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel was the standout batting performer of the day, scoring 51 off 68 balls, including four fours and a six. With the pitch offering assistance to the spinners, Jurel batted brilliantly to steady the innings and keep the scoreboard moving while wickets fell at the other end. He also stitched together a crucial 55-run partnership with Manav Suthar for the seventh wicket.
