Sophie Munro signs new two-year contract with Essex Women
The 25-year-old all-rounder will remain at Essex until the end of the 2028 season after signing a two-year extension.
Sophie Munro has committed her future to Essex Women by signing a two-year contract extension that will keep her at the county until the close of the 2028 season. The announcement was made on October 14, 2026.
Munro, who turned 25 on August 31, 2026, moved to Essex from The Blaze in 2025. In the time since joining, she has represented the county in 16 List A matches and 12 T20 fixtures, establishing herself as a reliable bowling option across both formats.
"I am extremely excited to extend my stay with Essex. I have really enjoyed the previous two seasons, and I am looking forward to continuing to develop my cricket under Stephen Parry and the coaching staff. I am very excited to see where our squad can get to in the next couple of years and hopefully, we will be competing for trophies," Munro said in an official club statement.
What has Munro contributed to Essex Women since joining?
Since arriving from The Blaze, Munro has been a consistent presence in the Essex Women bowling attack. Her appearances across the 50-over and T20 formats have provided the side with a dependable wicket-taking option at various stages of matches.
During the 2026 season, Munro earned a call-up to Trent Rockets for the Hundred after the squad required injury cover. She went on to be part of the Rockets group that claimed the title, adding a team honour to what had already been a productive year. Head Coach Stephen Parry spoke warmly about Munro's skillset.
"I am really happy to see Sophie extend her stay with the Club and put pen to paper on a new deal. She is an exciting cricketer to watch and is highly skilled with the ball. She has taken some important wickets at key moments when the team has needed them. Sophie has been unfortunate with injuries over the past couple of seasons, but when fit, her ability is clear to see. I look forward to working with Sophie over the winter alongside my coaching staff to help her develop further and ensure she hits the ground running in 2027, which I know she is more than capable of doing," Parry said in the statement.
What does the extension mean for Essex Women's plans ahead?
The two-year deal secures Munro's services through to the end of 2028, giving Essex Women a committed squad member as the club looks to build consistency within its playing group. The length of the contract signals that the coaching staff regard Munro as a central part of their plans for the coming seasons.
Munro's retention, combined with Parry's stated aim of challenging for silverware, points to a period of deliberate squad-building at Essex Women as they prepare for the 2027 season and beyond.
