Ahead of the Hundred 2026 season, Northern Superchargers are officially rebranded as Sunrisers Leeds following their acquisition by the Sun Group. The Sun Group, owners of IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), have secured 100 percent ownership of the Northern Superchargers in a record deal valued at Euros 100 million.

The acquisition saw the Sun Group buy out both the ECB’s 49 percent stake and Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s 51 percent share, making the Superchargers the first franchise in The Hundred to be sold outright. Two other undisclosed bidders were also involved in the auction.

Following the takeover, the franchise has now been officially renamed Sunrisers Leeds, a change that matches the team with the Sun Group’s established “Sunrisers” brand. The new company name was submitted to Companies House on October 31, confirming what had long been anticipated after the acquisition. The rebranding also links the Leeds-based franchise to a growing global network that includes Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa’s SA20.

Sunrisers isn't just a team, it's family, it's emotion: Kavya Maran

Speaking about the vision behind the Sunrisers brand, SRH co-owner Kavya Maran spoke about the emotional and fan-driven spirit the group focuses on bringing to Leeds.

"Sunrisers isn't just a team, it's family, it's emotion, it's passion. Orange Army, you've always shown up in huge numbers with fierce passion from India to South Africa. Now it's time to paint heading the orange. We're ready to go hard, we're ready to go fearless, we're ready to play with fire. This team is yours, Orange Army. Every wicket, every run, every record we break, it's for you," Kavya Maran said.

This investment is the Sun Group’s second overseas expansion after Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who are two-time defending SA20 champions under the leadership of Aiden Markram. Meanwhole, the former Northern Superchargers are still searching for their maiden Hundred title. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished fourth in the 2024 season. The men’s team is coached by Andrew Flintoff and captained by Harry Brook, while the women’s team recently appointed Lisa Keightley as head coach.
