'There should be some logic and fairness' - R Ashwin questions potential CSK-DC trade for IPL 2027
Ravichandran Ashwin shared his take on a potential trade deal between the Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.
Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed the possibility of a potential trade deal between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which could see Ashutosh Sharma moving to the Men in Yellow in exchange for Rahul Chahar.
This potential trade is being speculated by fans after Delhi Capitals' wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav went to the Lucknow Super Giants, allowing Rishabh Pant to return to his first-ever IPL franchise.
Ashwin said that DC won't be foolish enough to give away Ashutosh Sharma, who is one of the best finishers in the league, in exchange for Rahul Chahar, who got just one game to play for the Super Kings this season.
"There should be some logic and fairness in a trade proposal. I understand CSK want Ashutosh Sharma. And sure, DC didn't use him properly. Who are you giving back in the trade for Ashutosh Sharma? Someone you yourself didn't play in the 11 in Rahul Chahar," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
"A finisher is a prized possession, and it's so hard to get a good one, especially an Indian finisher. Will DC be so foolish to accept trading him for Rahul Chahar? Yes, DC need a spinner because they traded away Kuldeep. But they still have Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel. How will trade for a Rahul Chahar, just to sit him on the bench, and give you a first 11 player in Ashutosh?" he asked.
"It'll be one of the greatest heists in the history of mankind and IPL" - R Ashwin on a possible Chahar-Ashutosh trade
The former India off-spinner opined that giving Chahar in exchange for Ashutosh is almost the same as signing the explosive batter for free.
Ashwin urges patience over Sooryavanshi’s India debut
"If this trade does happen, it'll be one of the greatest heists in the history of mankind and IPL. Even if DC look for a wrist spinner to replace Kuldeep, why would they try to get one that warmed the bench almost entirely last season? Even if they want Chahar, they'll try to get him in the auction," said Ashwin (via the aforementioned source).
"Here, the proposal from CSK would be asking for arguably the best finisher in the league, who's also an Indian player, and giving up a nobody in return. CSK might as well ask Ashutosh Sharma for free instead of giving them Rahul Chahar. It's the same thing."
