South-African batter Theunis de Bruyn announces his retirement from international cricket at just 30 years of age. de Bruyn opined that his retirement from international cricket comes from the intention of focusing on the next chapter in his career. The 30-year-old made his international debut for South Africa back in 2017.

Since his debut, de Bruyn has represented South Africa in 13 Tests and two T20Is. The 30-year-old even has a Test century, which he scored against Sri Lanka in Colombo back in 2018. In two matches, de Bruyn scored 26 runs in the two T20 internationals he played in.

He was also part of Pretoria Capitals in the most recent edition of the SA20. The team topped the tournament tables but unfortunately lost the final match of the competition to Sunrisers Eastern Cape. After the end of the tournament, de Bruyn finished the campaign with 238 runs in 12 matches.

I’ve lived a childhood dream: de Bruyn

After his retirement, the 30-year-old even reflected on his career and the moments he has cherished the most. In a statement released by his domestic team, Titans, de Bruyn wrote about his international career.

"I've been fortunate to represent my country at the highest level of cricket, and that's been the proudest moment of my career, I've lived a childhood dream, shared dressing rooms with my heroes, and played cricket at some of the world's most iconic venues, and I can't say thank you enough for the opportunities I've got through this game."

"Looking back at everything that I've achieved, it is time to say goodbye to international cricket and focus on the next chapter. I'm excited for what the future has to offer and looking forward to chasing more dreams and ambitions in life."

Theunis will continue to play in various domestic leagues around the world even after his retirement from international cricket.
