Till the time Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are performing they should be a part of the team: Gautam Gambhir
"When you start and when you end is your individual decision," Gambhir said.
India's international season will begin with the five-match Test series which will be played against England in England from June 20. This will be a huge test for the Indian team especially after the disappointing series against New Zealand and Australia where some key players were out of touch.
Among the players who struggled were the two modern-day legends in Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. There have even been talks of both players being dropped from the England series as well.
Despite all the speculations, India head coach Gautam Gambhir opened up about the two players and said that they should continue playing for the team if they are performing, bringing up their performance in the Champions Trophy earlier this year. Gambhir also talked about their chances in the 2027 World Cup.
“Till the time they (Rohit and Kohli) are performing, they should be a part of the team. When you start and when you end is your individual decision. No coach, no selector, no BCCI can tell you when you should call it quits. If you perform, then why 40, you can jolly well play till 45, who’s stopping you?” Gautam Gambhir said.
“That (playing the 2027 ODI World Cup) will depend on their performance. Only that can ensure their selection. And what should I say about their performance? The world saw how they performed in CT,” the two-time World Champion added.
