The inaugural U-19 Women’s World Cup is set to kick-off on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The teams are currently playing warm-up matches to get themselves acquainted with the conditions and prepare for the main event in South Africa. As women’s cricket reaches new heights every year, the U-19 World Cup is a great step to hunt for up-and-coming players for every country.

The development of a junior women's T20 World Cup is crucial for the international game. The global Covid-19 pandemic delayed the establishment of this competition, but it will now provide aspiring female cricketers the same opportunity and exposure as their male counterparts for players of all the 16 teams participating.

The teams that were put together in South Africa have already produced a number of touching anecdotes. The first Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup is a true picture of the sport and its future on a worldwide scale. For the first time ever, Indonesia and Rwanda are competing in a global competition.

Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Zimbabwe are the 11 full member nations participating in the tournament who got direct entry. One team from each of the ICC's five regions earned the remaining five positions through regional qualifier competitions, which started in June last year.

FORMAT:

Speaking of the format of the tournament, the 16 teams have been divided into four groups of four teams each. The top three teams from every group will advance to the next round, the Super Six. The 12 teams will then be divided into two groups of six teams each.

While Group 1 will include the top three teams of Group A and D, Group 2 will consist of the top three teams from Group B and C. The top two teams from Groups 1 and 2 will progress further to the knock-out stage to play the two semi-final matches. Winners of both the semi-final fixtures will square off in the summit clash.
