Parvez Hossain Emon rewrote history on Saturday, May 17. He became only the second Bangladeshi batter to notch up a ton in T20I cricket. His 100 (54) led Bangladesh to 191/7 against UAE in their first T20I of the two-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The visitors ended up claiming victory by 27 runs.

Emon, who created history by becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to launch nine sixes in a T20I innings, seemed elated on following his idol Tamim Iqbal's footsteps.

"Yes, I was well aware of Tamim bhai's [record] as he scored that hundred against Oman. I try to watch all his games. Alhamdulliah, I am feeling good as I scored a century. After returning home, I remembered that Tamim bhai scored the first century. I am happy because I used to watch Tamim bhai's game as a child and now my name is right next to his," stated Emon, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Emon further shed light on his thought process while occupying the crease whilst wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

"When the wickets were falling, I just tried not to change my intent and I was always waiting to play to my strengths. But at the same time, I was keeping this in my head that I needed to take the game deep and I had to carry on. I just tried to give my best," he added.

The next-highest score for Bangladesh was by Towhid Hridoy (20 off 15). Tanzid Hasan (10 off 9), Litton Das (11 off 8), and Mahedi Hasan (2 off 5) were underwhelming with the bat. Mustafizur Rahman (2/17 in four overs) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/22 in four overs) were the bowlers from the visiting side who maintained an economy lesser than six.
