India and Australia faced off in the summit clash of the 2023 ODI World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Australia set the tone after Rohit Sharma hit a few boundaries to get India off to a good start. Mitchell Starc drew first blood as he picked Shubman Gill. Travis Head pulled off an absolute blinder to send Rohit back to the pavilion.
Shreyas Iyer, who walked in at No. 4 was dismissed for just four off Pat Cummins. India were reeling at 81-3 and Kohli in disappointment was seen shaking his head.

India and Australia have had a remarkable journey in the 2023 ODI World Cup, hosted solely by India. The Men in Blue topped the table after the league stage, securing wins in all their matches. Australia, despite a challenging start with two initial losses, mounted an impressive comeback by winning all remaining games, finishing third on the points table.
Rohit Sharma and Co. secured their spot in the final by defeating New Zealand in the first semifinal at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It is worth noting that it was a rematch of the semifinal in the 2019 edition of the tournament, which India lost by 18 runs. On the other hand, Pat Cummins-led side registered a convincing three-wicket win over South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The ongoing final marks India's fourth appearance in the history of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, having reached the summit clash in 1983, 2003, and 2011. India emerged victorious in 1983 and 2011 but faced defeat in 2003, notably against Australia.
Speaking of the 2003 final, India, after winning the toss and opting to field first, conceded a formidable total of 359 runs. Virender Sehwag played a sensational 81-ball 82-run knock, but India fell short, managing only 234 runs and suffering a defeat by 125 runs. Notably, the ongoing final provides India with a significant opportunity for redemption against the Kangaroos.
