In a recent development, Sri Lankan star leg-spin all-rounder, Wanindu Hasaranga's absence from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches has left Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fans in anticipation. The all-rounder, known for his prowess in white-ball cricket, has been included in Sri Lanka's squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

Having retired from Test cricket last year to focus on limited-overs formats, Hasaranga's return to the Test arena comes as a surprise to many. His inclusion in the Sri Lankan squad for the two-Test series, commencing from March 22, means he will miss at least the initial three matches for SRH in the IPL.

The IPL schedule, which kicks off on March 23, will see SRH facing Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening match. However, given his valuable contributions in previous seasons, Hasaranga's absence is likely to impact the team's strategy.

In the 2023 IPL season, Hasaranga showcased his bowling prowess, securing nine wickets in eight matches. His performances in earlier seasons have been equally impressive, notably in 2022 when he claimed 26 wickets in 16 matches, earning accolades for his exceptional skills on the field.

SRH, having acquired Hasaranga at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore, will have to change their plans in his absence. With matches scheduled in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad in the initial phase, the team management faces the challenge of finding suitable replacements for the dynamic all-rounder.

While Hasaranga's return to Test cricket marks a significant milestone in his career, SRH will eagerly await his availability for subsequent IPL matches. Fans will be hoping for his swift return to the squad as they look forward to his impactful performances in the tournament.

The much-awaited IPL 2024 is all set to kick off with a match between the champions of the previous season, Chennai Super Kings, and Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22nd at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
