Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan was struck on the elbow by a Jasprit Bumrah delivery during the opening over of the Asian Games 2026 gold medal final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The ball was a length delivery that angled in at good pace, and Farhan took his eyes off it at the last moment. He dropped his bat in pain, and the delivery was recorded as no run.

The incident occurred on the very first over's second ball of the match, with India having won the toss and elected to bat first. Washington Sundar removed Farhan in the fourth over, with the Pakistan captain departing for 10 off 11 balls. Maaz Sadaqat followed with 23 from 18 deliveries, but Pakistan's top order failed to build a meaningful platform. Farhan had also struggled to make a significant impact in the semi-final, continuing a difficult run of form at the tournament.

Bumrah completed his full allocation of four overs and returned figures of 0/33. He was particularly economical in the 19th over, conceding only 10 runs, which left Pakistan requiring 32 off the final over. Ravi Bishnoi was more expensive, giving away 44 runs from his three overs.

Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube each claimed two wickets to dismantle Pakistan's batting order. Hasan Nawaz was the standout performer for Pakistan, scoring 96 off 51 balls, before Dube dismissed him off the last ball of the match. Late contributions from Abdul Samad and Saad Masood were not enough, as Pakistan finished on 192/6 in 20 overs, falling 19 runs short of India's target.

India's total and match result

India had posted 211/6 in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma made 61 off 28 balls at the top of the order, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51 off 22 balls. Ahmed Daniyal and Arafat Minhas each took two wickets for Pakistan during India's innings.

India won the match by 19 runs to claim the gold medal, with Shreyas Iyer captaining the side. The result confirmed India as Asian Games 2026 cricket champions in what was a historic first men's final between the two nations at the Games.
