Gautam Gambhir was visibly frustrated after Mohammed Siraj reprieved Harry Brook and conceded six runs in the process off Prasidh Krishna's bowling on Day 4 of the fifth Test of the series between England and India. The incident unfolded on the first delivery of the 35th over during the run-chase.

Brook did not get proper connection while hooking the ball towards deep backward square leg region. Siraj looked in control for the majority of the duration when the ball was in the air, however, he could not keep track of the boundary cushion and ended up stepping on it after completing the catch.

The cameras immediately panned to the dugout where Gambhir was seen resting his hand on his forehead in dismay. The head coach's reaction reflected India's bowling woes. The fumble proved quite costly, with Brook, on 19 at that time, going onto slam 111 of just 98 balls. 

Siraj walked across to give Prasidh a hug at the end of the first session while the teams were walking off the field for Lunch. While the pace-bowling duo seemed to be all smiles, the action from Siraj reflected his regret as the chance went went begging.

England piled on the misery on India, with Brook and Root forging together a 195-run stand for the fourth wicket before the former was eventually dismissed by Akash Deep. Brook, who had come into bat with the hosts a long way away from the target, had brought his team to within touching distance of the win.

If India lose at the Oval, it would be their second consecutive defeat by a 3-1 margin in a five-match Test series away from home, having lost the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year by the same margin.
