With just a week left for the Asia Cup 2025, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir surprised fans by giving fresh nicknames to several cricketing greats during a light-hearted interaction at the Delhi Premier League (DPL) final. In a rapid-fire segment, Gambhir dubbed veteran batter Virat Kohli as ‘Desi Boy’, a tag that instantly caught the attention of fans.

The former India opener, who has been enjoying some time away from cricket following India’s one-month break from international action, was in a relaxed mood during the event. While international cricket continued elsewhere with series like Australia vs South Africa, the UAE Tri-Series, Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe and Bangladesh vs Netherlands, Gambhir admitted he has not been watching much cricket lately.

During the interaction, Gambhir also handed out titles to several icons of Indian cricket. He referred to Sachin Tendulkar as ‘Clutch’, called Jasprit Bumrah ‘Speed’, and named Shubman Gill as the ‘Most Stylish.’ He picked Zaheer Khan as the ‘Death Over Specialist’, VVS Laxman as the ‘Run Machine’, and Rishabh Pant as the ‘Most Funny.’ He also described Rahul Dravid as “Mr. Consistent” and Nitish Rana as the “Golden Arm.”

"I've been at home and I haven't watched a lot of cricket, but it's a great platform for a lot of these boys who can showcase their talent. And DPL is a fantastic job. They've done a great job of giving such kind of a platform to so many players who can showcase their talent," Gambhir said to the broadcaster.

"I think there will never be a shortage of talent in Delhi, because a lot of kids go and will play cricket, and obviously, the local competitions are really tough. And I believe, Delhi has so much to offer, not only for Delhi cricket, but a lot for India cricket as well. And hopefully these boys will keep showcasing the talent," he added.
