Kohli secured the Player of the Match award for his 120-ball 135-run knock in what was eventually
Ace Indian batter Virat Kohli snubbed South African head coach Shukri Conrad when the latter offered a handshake after the first ODI of the three-match series between India and South Africa in Ranchi. Kohli secured the Player of the Match award for his 120-ball 135 as India secured a 17-run win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The incident occurred when the teams lined up on the stairs to exchange post-match pleasantries. Kohli did not extend his hand towards Conrad and moved ahead with greeting Dewald Brevis who was right behind the head coach.
For the unversed, Conrad recently came under the spotlight after passing a controversial statement in relation to making the Indian team 'grovel'. The word has a complex and sensitive history associated and the usage did not sit well with the Indian cricketing fraternity. Conrad made the remark in the press conference at the end of Day 4 in the second Test in Guwahati, which South Africa won by a record 408-run margin to secure a historic 2-0 victory on Indian soil.

Speaking of the series-opening clash at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on November 30, Kohli starred with a 52nd ODI century as India posted 349/8 after being invited to bat first. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scored half-centuries as well.
Despite a top-order collapse, with South Africa reeling at 11/3 in the fifth over, the tourists fought back and gave a hard fight to the hosts as Matthew Breetzke, Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch struck attacking half-centuries. However, the KL Rahul-led unit clinched the game with Kuldeep Yadav starring with a four-wicket haul.
The second ODI will be played in Raipur (December 3) followed by the third and last in Visakhapatnam (December 6). The 50-over leg will be followed by five T20Is. The all-format series is scheduled to get over on Friday, December 19.
