[WATCH] IND vs WI 2025: Shubman Gill faces head injury; Yashasvi Jaiswal hilariously conducts concussion test
India finished Day 1 at 318/2, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill remaining unbeaten at the crease.
Indian Test captain Shubman Gill endured a brief scare after colliding with Tevin Imlach during the second Test against the West Indies on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. India, already leading the two-match Test series 1-0, found themselves in a comfortable position in the second encounter at the end of Day 1.
The incident occurred in the 85th over, bowled by Anderson Phillip, to Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal flicked a delivery firmly towards the mid-wicket region, where a diving fielder made a sharp stop to his right. Attempting a quick single, both Gill and Jaiswal sprinted between the wickets. However, the throw to the wicketkeeper’s end was wayward, and while trying to evade it, Gill collided with Imlach, with the ball grazing the Indian skipper’s shoulder in the process.
There was a brief hold-up as medical staff attended to both players. As per standard procedure after such collisions, a concussion test was conducted. In a light-hearted moment, Jaiswal jokingly performed a mock concussion test on Gill, bringing smiles on the ground.
At the end of the opening day's play, India stood at 318/2, putting themselves in a commanding position. Earlier, Gill won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that proved fruitful. Sai Sudharsan played a composed knock of 87 runs, while Jaiswal dominated the West Indian bowling attack with a brilliant 173 not out off 253 balls, including 22 boundaries.
KL Rahul contributed a steady 38 runs, and Gill remained unbeaten on 20 at the close of play. For the visitors, Jomel Warrican was the only bowler with wickets under his belt on the first day, finishing with figures of 2 for 60, while the rest of the West Indian attack struggled to extract much from a hot and flat Delhi pitch.

The second day also promises to follow a similar pattern, with the batters expected to dominate once again. Jaiswal will look to reach yet another milestone, while Gill aims to add more memorable moments to his growing tally.
