Romario Shepherd struck in his very first over to dismiss Shreyas Iyer for a single run off a couple of deliveries during the final of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Iyer had to walk back for a cheap score. He was PBKS' third wicket to fall, and the second in consecutive overs from his side.

It was a short of a good length delivery by Shepherd outside off stump. A lazy shot by the PBKS skipper caught the outside edge of the middle-order batter's bat before landing in Jitesh Sharma's gloves. The pure elation on display by the RCB unit, and in particular Virat Kohli, displayed how important Iyer's wicket was. This comes a couple of days after he played a blinder of a knock against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.

Earlier in the game, RCB posted 190/9 after being sent in to bat first. Kohli top-scored with 43 off 35. Rajat Patidar (26 off 16), Liam Livingstone (25 off 15), Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10), and Romario Shepherd (17 off nine) chipped in with handy cameos.

As far as PBKS' bowling department is concerned, Arshdeep Singh (3/40 in four overs) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48 in four overs) shared six wickets between themselves. Vijaykumar Vyshak (1/30 in four overs) proved to be the most economical bowler from the Iyer-led outfit.

As of writing, the win seems a mere formality for the Bengaluru-based franchise, as PBKS have already lost seven wickets, while requiring 45 off the last 15 balls. This will be the first time they get their hands on the silverware after a 17-year-long wait.
