Things got intense during Mumbai's warm-up game against Maharashtra as the two teams were preparing for the Ranji Trophy, which gets underway on October 15. The encounter was being played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.

Batting first, Prithvi Shaw slammed a 140-ball ton against his former side, Mumbai. He was part of a massive 305-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni, who slammed 186 off just 140 balls. After Kulkarni's dismissal, Shaw continued adding to Mumbai's misery, hitting boundaries at will against a strong bowling attack.

However, in the 74th over, he was caught by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan's bowling at the square leg fence. Shaw made 181 off just 220 balls, belting 21 fours and three sixes. Soon after his dismissal, Musheer allegedly sledged the experienced campaigner by saying, "Thank you."

This celebration didn't sit well with Shaw as he got involved in a war of words with Musheer before the umpire had to step in to pacify the situation. Siddesh Lad was also seen trying to calm things down. Shaw had to be escorted away from the Mumbai players. The former India opener allegedly tried to raise the bat and hold the collar of the Mumbai all-rounder during the opening day of the friendly match.

"It's a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It's all ok now and there is no issue," Ankit Bhawne, the captain of Maharashtra side, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

At the time of publication, there is no information from either the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) or the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) about escalating the matter.

Shaw is looking to revive his flagging career after shifting base to Maharashtra, severing ties with Mumbai ahead of the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old will want to stay focused on the game and keep piling on the runs instead of getting involved in avoidable tussles.
