Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey recently commented on the 'genius' of MS Dhoni and reflected on his wicketkeeping brilliance.

Carey refered to an instance from the second T20I of India's 2016 white-ball tour of Australia. The freak stumping led to the fall of James Faulkner off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling.

Although the ball deflected off Dhoni's pads following a thick inside-edge before crashing into the stumps, Carey felt that the effort was intentional and perfectly executed by the then-Indian captain.

"Dhoni, he's a genius, so he probably meant it. This probably is intentional because it is MS Dhoni. Big chop on from Faulkner. Hit the pad, deflection back onto the stumps. And I think we have got a stumping," stated Carey while speaking to cricket.com.au.

Speaking of the match, India ended up victorious by 27 runs while successfully defending 185 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Faulkner wicket wasn't the only time Dhoni contributed with the gloves in that game, as he was also involved in Aaron Finch's (74 off 48) run-out, Chris Lynn's(2 off 4) wicket and Glenn Maxwell's stumping (1 off 2).

He even contributed 14 off 9 with the bat in the first innings. Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 33-ball 59. Rohit Sharma was the Men in Blue's top-scorer with 60 off 47 while Jasprit Bumrah (2/37 in four overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/37 in four overs) chipped in with two wickets each.

For the unversed, Ruturaj Gaikwad had earlier mentioned during IPL 2025 about how Dhoni would not practice wicketkeeping during the season. Earlier, Alyssa Healy had remarked how she would take wicketkeeping advice from Dhoni instead of Adam Gilchrist. Dhoni is still renowned as one of the world's most proficient wicketkeepers in cricket.
