Shubman Gill failed to deliver in the high-voltage final between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 28.

India did tremendously well to restrict Pakistan to 146 in 19.1 overs after winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman gave the Men in Green a fantastic start, adding 84 runs inside 10 overs. The former notched up his second fifty against India in the continental competition. After he was dismissed for a 38-ball 57, Saim Ayub added 29 runs with Zaman.

However, India applied the brakes with Kuldeep Yadav leading the charge. After Zaman was dismissed for a 35-ball 46, the Pakistani middle-order came a cropper. Apart from the top three, no other batter managed to get to double digits.

Chasing the 147-run total seemed like a cakewalk for a strong Indian batting lineup. However, Pakistan bowlers hit the ground running and took the wickets of Abhishek Sharma, the leading run-getter in the tournament, and Suryakumar Yadav inside the first three overs.

Indian fans would have hoped that vice-captain Shubman Gill would step up under pressure. However, he threw his wicket away in the fourth over, failing to clear Haris Rauf at mid-on with a flat pull.

Rauf timed his jump to perfection and took the catch despite overbalancing a tad. Faheem Ashraf was delighted with the wicket, and he let out a huge roar standing in front of a distraught Gill.
