Smriti Mandhana's wedding with Palash Mucchal postponed indefinitely as father gets hospitalized
Smriti and Palash’s wedding has been one of the most talked-about celebrity events of the year. The couple, who began dating in 2019 and maintained a low-profile relationship until 2024.
The much-awaited wedding of star Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal has been postponed indefinitely after Smriti’s father, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana, reportedly suffered a sudden heart attack on Sunday morning. What was expected to be one of the most celebrated events of the year has now been put on hold as the family prioritises his health and recovery.
The news was confirmed by Smriti Mandhana’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, who addressed the media and clarified the situation. Explaining the sequence of events, Mishra shared that Mr. Mandhana suddenly began feeling unwell while having breakfast. Initially, the family thought it might be a minor health concern, but his condition worsened within minutes. Seeing the urgency, the family immediately called for an ambulance and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently under observation.
"In the morning, when he was doing breakfast, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana health looked in bad shape. We waited a little while, but did not want to take a lot of risk. We called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. He was under observation. And Smriti is very close to her father, so she has decided that until his father gets back on track, the marriage will be postponed indefinitely," Tuhin Mishra told reporters on Sunday.
Smriti and Palash’s wedding celebrations had already begun earlier in the week in Sangli, Maharashtra. The couple, who started dating in 2019 and kept their relationship largely private until 2024, had hosted a series of pre-wedding functions including mehendi, sangeet, and haldi ceremonies. The festivities were filled with emotional moments, close family bonding, and appearances from several personalities from sports and the music industry.
Earlier in the day, the event had already experienced a moment of confusion when an ambulance unexpectedly entered the wedding venue. Clips of the ambulance arriving quickly went viral on social media, sparking speculation about who needed medical attention. Eyewitnesses reported a brief state of panic before the situation was brought under control. At the time, organisers had not issued a formal statement, but it has now become clear that the ambulance had arrived to attend to Mr. Mandhana after his sudden health scare.
According to Mishra, doctors have advised that Mr. Mandhana will need to remain in the hospital for further monitoring. While the family is hopeful of a quick and full recovery, they are understandably shaken by the sudden turn of events.
