Gujarat Titans’ (GT) all-rounder Glenn Phillips had an outburst in a press conference following GT’s 92-run loss at the hands of defending champions Royals Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the HPCA stadium, Dharamsala on May 26.

The 2022 IPL champions were blown away by the Rajat Patidar side to book their place in the final of the IPL 2026. GT opted to bowl first, and what followed was a total carnage by the RCB batters, as they smashed 254 runs for the loss of five wickets batting first. RCB captain Rajat Patidar smashed 93 runs in just 33 balls including five fours and nine sixes.

Glenn Phillips was present at the post-match press conference representing his side. He lost his cool when one of the reporters asked him whether GT had given up on chase even before taking the field.

“That’s a silly question. That is a really silly question. No one goes in there waiting to go, ‘Oh, you know what? We’re just going to give up on this one.’ Why would we do that as professional cricketers?,” Phillips said in response.

The New Zealander stated that the players are professionals, and that his side gave their all chasing the target, irrespective of the outcome of the match.

“That’s a terrible question. We went out there, we gave it everything. Unfortunately, when you’re trying to chase 250, everything has to go right. And we went out there to try and make everything go right, and obviously it didn’t,” responded Phillips.

Chasing a mammoth target of 255, GT’s innings never got going as they were bundled out for 164 runs by the RCB bowlers. They lost their in-form opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan early in their innings at a crucial phase. From RCB, Jacob Duffy took three wickets, whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed two.
