Bangladesh suffered a heart-breaking defeat against India in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022 after coming so close to a victory and two incidents of controversial umpiring have come to notice after the game. Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown were the on-field umpires for the high-intensity game and notably, Bangladesh were cruising towards their target until the rain break changed their momentum.
Litton Das, who was firing on all cylinders, was dismissed run out after the game resumed and Bangladesh collapsed in the run-chase post that. Before Das' run-out, Kohli was spotted doing a fake throw in the seventh over, which caught the eyes of the vice-captain Nurul Hasan. The on-field umpires did not notice Kohli’s throw and hence, no penalty was imposed on India.
Another incident was when skipper Shakib Al Hasan asked the umpires for extra time to dry the wet outfield, however, the match officials felt that the situation was good enough to resume play. Notably, Das slipped once while running immeditely after the game was resumed as he was going for the second run. BCB weren’t happy with the umpiring on that aspect.
We have notified the umpires about the fake throw: Jalal Yunus
According to Cricbuzz sources, Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus has now opened up on the incidents and he was quite clear about raising the issue in a proper forum.
“We have spoken about it. You have seen it in the TV and everything happened in front of you. There was one regarding fake throw and we have notified the umpires about the fake throw but he said he did not notice it and that is the reason he did not take the review. Shakib discussed a lot about it with Erasmus and even spoke with him after game," Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
"Secondly, Shakib had spoken about the wet field and he asked that he can take some more time and let the field get dried and start the game after the field is dried. But... the umpires' decision is final and that is reason there was no place for argument. There was only one decision whether you will play or not play.”
"We have it in our head so that we can raise the issue in the proper forum," he added.
