What is India's record at Nagpur in T20Is?
The first game will begin on January 21 between India and New Zealand.
India head into the five-match T20I series against New Zealand on the back of a 1-2 defeat in the ODI series. However, the Men in Blue will take confidence from their outstanding record in the shortest format, having won every T20I series they have played since lifting the T20 World Cup in 2024. The upcoming series also serves as crucial preparation for the next T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Since the T20 World Cup triumph, India have established clear dominance in T20Is. They have won seven bilateral T20I series and also lifted the Asia Cup 2025, which was played in the shorter format. This remarkable consistency highlights India’s strength and depth in T20 cricket, giving them a psychological edge heading into the series against New Zealand.
The first T20I will be played on January 21 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur. Given India’s recent form in T20Is, expectations are high for them to start the series strongly and put the visitors under pressure early.

What is India’s record in Nagpur in T20Is?
India’s T20I record in Nagpur has been mixed but respectable. The hosts have played five matches at the venue, winning three and losing two. Their first T20I at the ground came in 2009 against Sri Lanka, where they suffered a 29-run defeat, with Kumar Sangakkara dominating the proceedings. In the 2016 T20 World Cup, India faced New Zealand at the same venue and endured a heavy 47-run loss, with Mitchell Santner starring for the Kiwis.
India’s fortunes improved in subsequent matches. In 2017, they edged past England by five runs, courtesy of KL Rahul’s half-century and disciplined bowling from Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra. Two years later, India comfortably defeated Bangladesh by 30 runs, with Deepak Chahar producing a sensational spell of 6/7. More recently, in 2022, India beat Australia by six wickets in a rain-curtailed encounter.
With a mixed history at Nagpur but strong recent T20I form, India will be eager to begin the series on a winning note and take a 1-0 lead against the Black Caps.
