Who is Amita Sharma? - The former India all-rounder named women's selection panel chairman

Former India Women all-rounder Amita Sharma has been selected as the women’s selection panel's chairperson. She has replaced Neetu David, who was serving in the same role since 2020. An official announcement was made at the BCCI Annual General Meeting, held in Mumbai on Sunday, September 28.

The panel, other than Amita, will also comprise Shyama Dey, Jaya Sharma and Sravanthi Naidu. There tenure will get underway after the Women’s World Cup. The mega event is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2.

Meanwhile, the committee for the Women's Premier League will be led by Jayesh George as chairperson. Mithun Manhas, Rajeev Shukla, Devajit Saikia, Prabhtej Bhatia, A. Raghuram Bhat, Madhumati Lele, Sanjay Tandon, R.I. Palani and Arun Singh Dhumal are the other members.

Manhas, a former Delhi cricketer, will take charge as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He has replaced the legendary Roger Binny. The former World Cup-winning player's tenure ended the moment he crossed 70.

Who is Amita Sharma?

Amita Sharma is a former Indian cricketer whose role was that of a right-arm medium-fast bowler and lower-order right-handed batter. Amita's international career spanned from 2002 to 2014. She featured in five Tests, 116 ODIs, and 41 T20Is for the country.

Amita scored 926 runs at an average of 16.83 in ODIs. Her highest score was 51 not-out, with 95 fours and seven sixes to her name. With the ball, she secured 87 scalps at an economy rate of 3.73 and and average of 32.5.

In T20Is, she scored 383 runs at an average of 14.73 and also took 16 wickets, while averaging in the mid-30s. She registered a solitary half-century in Test cricket, with her top score being 50 while taking five wickets. In domestic cricket, Amita played for Railways, Assam and Delhi.
