The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team created history as they lifted the Women's World Cup for the first time, defeating South Africa in the final on Sunday, November 2, at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a huge prize purse for the Indian women’s cricket team following their historic ODI World Cup victory against the Proteas. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told the press that the team members, along with the support staff, will be handed a total prize money of INR 51 crore in recognition of their surreal achievement.

“Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah announced a 300 percent increase in women’s prize money. Earlier, the prize fund was 3.88 million dollars, which has now been raised to 14 million dollars. In addition, the BCCI has decided to reward the entire Indian team — players, coaches, selectors, and support staff — with a total of Rs 51 crore,” Saikia was quoted as saying by India Today.

India posted a commendable total of 298/7 in their 50 overs after South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and opted to field first. Shafali Verma top-scored for the Women in Blue, smashing a career-best 87 off just 78 balls. Deepti Sharma also batted well for her run-a-ball 58.

In reply, Wolvaardt continued his purple patch in the tournament and amassed 101 off 98 balls. However, the rest of the South African batters couldn't give her much support. In the end, the Proteas were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs. Deepti starred with the ball, bagging figures of 5/39 in 9.3 overs. Shafali also picked up two wickets at crucial stages of the match.

How Much Prize Money Will India Earn?

The ICC Women's World Cup announced a stunning prize pool ahead of the eight-team competition. The ICC awarded India a massive payout of INR 37.3 crore. These are record-breaking numbers, marking a whopping 239 percent increase in the winner's prize from the previous edition of the global tournament in 2022, when Australia received around INR 11 crore.

The total prize pool for the 2025 Women's World Cup stands at INR 116 crore, almost three times higher than the INR 29 crore shelled out in the 2022 tournament in New Zealand. What makes this year's event historic is that it marks the first time the ICC has introduced equal prize money for men's and women's World Cups, fulfilling its commitment to ensure pay parity across genders. Notably, the prize pool even eclipses that of the 2023 Men's World Cup, which had a total of INR 84 crore.
