The World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) recently began a thorough and comprehensive review of cricket’s global structure, hoping that in doing so, they will be able to provide a viable solution to the cramped cricket calendar across the globe.
The chairman of the WCA, Heath Mills, had come forward and revealed that the board had given up hope over the higher-ups’ ability to make a schedule in which both international and domestic cricket could co-exist.
One of the solutions that was put forth by the WCA claimed that 84 percent of the players that they talked to agreed with having a window for both international and domestic cricket, ensuring their coexistence.
The likes of former Australian Cricketers' Association chief Paul Marsh, former Pakistan skipper Sana Mir, former FICA chief Tony Irish, former ECB CEO Tom Harrison, and Sanjog Gupta (Head of Sports, Disney Star) will be leading the WCA review, reported ESPNcricinfo.
It is also worth noting that the WCA has been representing players from up to 16 different members, which includes associations from Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa. The BCCI and PCB are the two boards without any representation from the WCA.

"We are fortunate that cricket is spoilt for choice and has three core formats across both the international game and domestic leagues, however, to date, the game's leadership has collectively failed to come together to establish a clear and coherent global structure in which they can co-exist. We have virtually given up hope of it doing so,” Heath Mills said in a statement released by the WCA.
The current scheduling model of the sport has been described as "broken and unsustainable" by the WCA statement. It talked about how the players were constantly having to prioritise and pick between international cricket and domestic matches. Furthermore, the review will also devise a solution to the situation of player’s contracts and how the lack of a proper calendar makes it difficult for the players and for cricket itself to regulate them.
