Zubin Bharucha joins Mumbai Indians as Director of Performance

Mumbai Indians have appointed Zubin Bharucha as their Director of Performance, with the franchise confirming the move on August 22, 2026. Bharucha, who is 56 years old, joins one of the IPL's most decorated franchises as they look to rebuild their standing in the competition after a difficult run of seasons.

They have won the IPL five times, with their most recent title arriving in the 2020 season. In the years since, the franchise has reached the playoffs on only two occasions, finishing at the bottom of the table twice and ninth in the 2026 IPL season before being eliminated.

"Zubin Bharucha joins Mumbai Indians as Director of Performance, and will work closely with the current multi-disciplinary leadership group across all performance disciplines within the MI ecosystem. He will join the current support staff within the highly integrated MI ecosystem and continue to build on Mumbai Indians’ approach to deliver unparalleled success in player development," the franchise announced in an official statement.

What experience does Bharucha bring to Mumbai Indians?

Bharucha is a former first-class cricketer who represented Bombay and Surrey during his playing days. His move into cricket administration and player development has covered the entire span of the IPL era, giving him a thorough understanding of how franchise cricket operates in India.

His IPL journey began at Rajasthan Royals, where he held the role of team director across the period from 2008 to 2015. He then moved to Delhi Daredevils, serving as technical director from 2016 to 2017. Bharucha subsequently returned to Rajasthan Royals and took charge as Director of Cricket Operations from 2018 through to the 26 season.

During his years at Rajasthan Royals, Bharucha played a significant part in the development of players who went on to represent India at the highest level, including Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
