IND vs ENG: 5 Players who could be benched in second Test

India and England are up against each other in the five-match Test series where England is visiting the mighty Indian side. India has been one of the toughest destinations to conquer as there has been no team that has been able to breach the fortress in the last 12 years. Keep in mind that England was the only team to beat India 12 years ago. The first game between the two sides was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad where England won the toss and also went on to win the match by 28 runs. There were some real good performances with the bat as well as the ball in the match but there are some players who might be a bit unsure if they will get to feature in the next game or not. Let us take a look at five players who could be benched in the second Test: Shubman Gill: Shubman Gill has performed exceedingly well in the One Day Internationals in the last year and established his name as one of the best. He scored more than 1400 runs in the last calendar year but unfortunately has not been able to convert that in Tests as well. He had a fantastic start to his Test career as well where he had played some brilliant knocks in Australia. He averages just around 35 in Tests which does not justify the amount of talent he possesses. The iconic position of number three in the Indian Test line-up has been awarded to him but he has failed to own the place so far. With all eyes glued on him, his performance in the second innings will put further questions on his caliber. Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas Iyer has been great playing some crucial knocks in the middle order for the Indian team. However, he has been unable to make his position his own due to the lack of consistency. His ability to build the innings and change gears gives him an extra edge over other batters for this contention but he would need some good performances to solidify his case. With Virat Kohli coming back after the second game, there has to be a batter who should be kept out to make space for him which means added pressure for Iyer to start performing from this game itself so that he can secure his place especially when he couldn't do much in the Hyderabad Test. Jack Leach: Jack Leach is the lead spinner for the English but he was highly under-utilised in the first innings for England. The main reason behind such an act can be that the knee injury is still troubling the bowler. Cricket pundits could also sense some discomfort in his run-up and bowling action which probably affected his bowling. There is still an innings for him to bowl in this game and that can actually be the deciding factor if he will play the second Test or may get benched for his fitness. He is surely not at his best from the fitness perspective and there are doubts about him playing the next game. Mark Wood: Mark Wood is the only pacer included in the bowling line-up from the English side but there are doubts if he would be playing the next game and the reasons are genuine. He is a pacer whose natural length is short and does not prefer to bowl with the new ball, hence forcing the spinners to start with the new ball and short ball is not too great an option in the Indian subcontinent at all times. He wasn't great in this match with the ball in his hand. Though he has been rather economical, he has failed to pick any wickets and it might be an interesting thought to pick Anderson or Robinson for the next game. Ben Foakes: Keeping in mind the tough battle between the bat and the ball here in India, especially with spinners breathing fire and the English batters struggling to play the quality of spin, it might be a tantalizing option for England to play a specialist batter and give the gloves to Johnny Bairstow instead. With a 4 and 34 in the first game, Ben Foakes did not make too great of case with his performance as well and there has not been any surprisingly good work with the gloves as well which might weaken his case.
