Ahead of the IPL 2024 which begins on March 22, during a session titled ‘Cricket Insiders’ powered by JioCinema, at the News18 ‘Rising Bharat Summit’ on Wednesday, IPL experts AB de Villiers, Brett Lee and Aakash Chopra spoke about Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s chances of winning the IPL, now that their women counterparts have lifted the WPL trophy. AB de Villiers on whether RCB can win the IPL 2024: RCB look like a team who can win it, but sport is a funny thing and cricket is unpredictable, so you got to be patient. The women’s team has broken the shackles and once the men’s team win a trophy, there can be quite a few back-to-back wins, so let’s hope we go strength-to-strength this year. RCB have always given their best. We lost in the finals three times, we had our moments here and there. But it is about the legacy that the senior guys have left behind. Hopefully, it will carry the team across the line.
Brett Lee spoke on RCB’s chances: I actually think RCB have a very good chance this year. They arguably got the best side over the years, but they haven’t been lucky, so hopefully with the change in the name and the jersey, maybe this is their year.
AB de Villiers, on how he learnt something new about his wife from the Hangout feed on JioCinema: On JioCinema, we have the Hangout feed which is quite different, and I was on that show with my wife. I also got educated on that show. She told me that when RCB played KKR once, and I was an RCB player, she actually supported KKR! I told her, ‘Excuse me, what’s that about?’ She told me that Shah Rukh Khan is one of her favourites. So, I also learnt something that day.
