Despite their best efforts, Lucknow Super Giants suffered a 16-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last match in the IPL 2023. Next up, they will take on Chennai Super Kings and will hope to make a strong return in the league.

The MS Dhoni-led side suffered a heart-breaking four-wicket defeat at the hands of the Punjab Kings in their last match. Batting first, they posted 200 runs on the board but failed to defend. Tushar Deshpande, who is currently at the top of the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list, conceded more than 12 runs per over while other bowlers like Aakash Singh and Maheesh Theekshana went expensive as well.

When it comes CSK's batting, Kiwi star Devon Conway has been sensational so far. He has scored 414 runs in nine matches and is currently third on the IPL Orange Cap list. Thus, he will be one of the players to watch out for alongside Ajinkya Rahane, who is playing some sensational cricket at the moment.

Meanwhile, LSG skipper KL Rahul is currently injured and is  likely to miss the game against CSK. In his absence, Quinton de Kock may make his return to the squad but it will b tough for the home side to make room for the South Africa international. In Rahul’s absence, Kyle Mayers and Marcus Stoinis will have to take a lot of responsibility with the bat.

With the ball, Naveen-ul-Haq is in terrific form and will be key for the side. Spinners often get a lot of help from the surface in Ekana Stadium and  players like Amit Mishra and Ravi Bishnoi may prove effective.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface in Lucknow has favoured the bowlers massively. The team winning the toss should elect to bat first as the pitch tends to get slower with time. Anything above 135 will be a good total on this wicket.

Probable Playing XI for LSG vs CSK

If indeed KL Rahul fails to recover on time, then Krunal Pandya will lead the team, while Quinton de Kock may make his return. Other than that, LSG are unliklely to make changes.

LSG's Predicted XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Kyle Mayers, Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya (c), Krishnappa Gowtham, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Amit Mishra, Yash Thakur

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are playing some brilliant cricket at the moment and it is unlikely that MS Dhoni will make any changes to their settled combination.
