In order to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the IPL playoffs, both Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore will come hard when they face each other on Tuesday, May 9, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, the five-time champions are currently sixth in the IPL Points Table, and in their last match, they suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings.
Be it batting or bowling, the MI players have been inconsistent, and that is one thing the team management will have to work on. Skipper Rohit Sharma, too is in poor form as the 36-year-old has managed to amass only 184 runs in ten matches, which includes two back-to-back ducks. Other than that, youngster Nehal Wadhera is in terrific form at the moment, as the 22-year-old registered his first half-century in the IPL against CSK.
When it comes to bowling, no one other than Piyush Chawla have made a mark. Star signing Jofra Archer has been poor, to say the least, while others lack the substantial experience to make a difference. Notably, without a shadow of a doubt, the team is missing Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a pillar for several years.
Bangalore have missed the trick, as the auction table blunders are proving costly yet again. Just like every other year, it’s just three or four players who are playing really coming to the party while the others are struggling. Skipper Faf du Plessis is in tremendous form and is the current holder of the IPL Orange Cap, while star India batter Virat Kohli is once again delivering time and again, but this time his strike has also been part of the discussion.
Mohammed Siraj with the bowl has been brilliant, but that is not the only reason why he trends on Twitter these days. He has lost his cool on several occasions, and that is one such area where the cricketer needs to pull up his socks. Other than him, Josh Hazlewood has been a force to reckon with.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium will favour the batters to succeed. Pacers will have to work really hard, while spinners can prove to be effective in the middle overs. Anything over 190 will be a good total, as bowling first will be ideal.
