Chennai Super Kings will take on Lucknow Super Giants in the sixth match of the ongoing IPL 2023 in Chepauk on Monday, April 2. The four-time IPL winners, who were humbled by defending champions Gujarat Titans in the curtain raiser of this year's competition, will be back playing in front of their vociferous home crowd.
MS Dhoni's men performed well in the batting department, but it was their bowling, which has been an Achilles heel of late, that let them down in the final stages of the match against the reigning champions in Ahmedabad. However, the CSK faithful will be pleased with the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who put on a stellar batting display in the campaign opener.
Meanwhile, their opponents, Lucknow Super Giants, handed a chastening defeat to the Delhi Capitals in their campaign opener. Although KL Rahul failed to make a mark with the bat, his opening partner, Kyle Mayers, helped his side to a formidable total before Mark Wood wreaked havoc with the ball.
Even though LSG registered a comprehensive victory against the Delhi Capitals, it won't be easy for them to topple CSK in their famed fortress in Chepauk. It proposed to be an entertaining contest between two star-studded outfits.
Pitch and Conditions
Going by the history of the venue, the surface in Chepauk is usually dry and deteriorates as the match progresses. Although the pitch assists the slower bowlers to some extent, batters often enjoy their time in the middle. The team winning the toss would be inclined to bat first at this venue.
Probable Playing XI for CSK vs LSG
Chennai Super Kings
It was their lack of death bowling options that cost CSK in their campaign opener. They will hope for better control from their bowlers, especially the pacers. England's Test skipper Ben Stokes will also hope for a better outing with the bat against LSG.
Probable Playing XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar
Lucknow Super Giants
KL Rahul's team ticked off all the boxes in their campaign opener. The batting looks solid despite Quinton de Kock's absence and Mark Wood's addition in the fast bowling department has added another dimension to the Lucknow-based outfit.
Probable Playing XI: KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ayush Badoni, Mark Wood, Jaydev Unadkat, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan
