After the second ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka got washed out, the two sides will lock horns in the third and final ODI of the series at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Friday, March 31. The Kiwis are leading the series 1-0 having hammered the visitors by 198 runs in the first ODI, which is also the heaviest margin of defeat in the ODI history between the two teams.

After being put in to bat first, New Zealand batters chipped in and put a total of 274 runs on the board, in the first ODI. Chamika Karunaratne shone with the ball for Sri Lanka as he picked 4/43 in nine overs for his side. However, the Sri Lankan batters were brought down to their knees by New Zealand as they were bundled out for just 76 runs. Henry Shipley, who picked up 5/31 in seven overs, was the star with the ball for the hosts.

Sri Lanka have only won one ODI series in New Zealand, which was way back in 2001 when they defeated the hosts by 4-1. They will be eager to win the third ODI to stop the Tom Latham-led side from winning the fourth consecutive series against them.

Sri Lanka started the tour with a 0-2 loss in the Test series and have an uphill task at hand to put up an improved performance in the third ODI to save themselves from another series defeat. New Zealand, on the other hand, will be eager to seal the deal by crushing the visitors again on Friday.

Pitch & Conditions:

Out of the 52 matches played at the venue, teams chasing have won 27 matches. The average first-innings score at the venue Is 234 while the highest total of 363/4 was recorded by West Indies in 2014. The highest chased total at the venue is 350/9 by New Zealand which further suggests that the pitch can be expected to be a belter where the batters are going to enjoy their outing. The captain who wins the toss will look to bowl first keeping the past record of the venue in mind.

Probable Playing XIs for NZ vs SL, 3rd ODI:

New Zealand

Tom Latham will be mighty pleased with the efforts of the bowlers in the first ODI; however, he would want his batters to take more responsibility and play longer innings when they’re well set out in the middle.

Probable Playing XI: Henry Nicholls, Chad Bowes, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (c & wk), Mark Chapman, Rachin Ravindra, Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, Blair Tickner

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will want to put their horrendous batting performance in the first ODI behind them and start afresh in the final game of the series. Their bowlers did a decent job in restricting New Zealand to 274 and will look to put up an even better performance in the do-or-die fixture.

Probable Playing XI: Nuwanidu Fernando, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka
