South Africa will be locking horns with Zimbabwe in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Monday, October 24. Both teams would be eager to kickstart their respective campaigns on a winning note.
All eyes will be on South Africa as they are considered as the dark horses to win the tournament. They were unbeaten in all the bilateral T20I series in the last year before a 1-2 loss in India last month. The Proteas made a good first impression when they decimated New Zealand by nine wickets in a warm-up match, bowling them out for just 98, while their next warm-up fixture against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.
Zimbabwe would be oozing with confidence, having finally made to the main round of the T20 World Cup after not getting a chance last year and they would be hoping to make the most of this opportunity. While they lost to the two-time winners West Indies in the group stage by 31 runs, thier 31-run and five-wicket victories over Ireland and Scotland earned them a Super 12 berth.
The South Africans would be hoping that their underfire skipper Temba Bavuma finally gets some runs under his belt, having struggled for so long. He had a forgettable India tour last month where he could only manage single digit scores in the T20I series. Zimbabwe would also be hoping for more collective performances other than just star all-rounder Sikandar Raza who have been their saviour for a while.
Pitch Conditions
The Hobart wicket is expected to be a balanced one for both the batters and bowlers and a score any excess of 150 might turn out to be a challenging one. Ideally, it could have been a good choice to bat first since the game is played on a used surface. Nonetheless, with a heavy rain forecast predicted, the captain winning the toss would bowl first.
