India and West Indies will lock horns in the ninth match of the Women’s T20 World 2023, which will also be the fourth match of Group B. While India won their opening fixture against Pakistan, in what panned out as a last-over thriller, West Indies lost their campaign opener against England and would be desperately looking for a victory.

While India are currently placed second in the points table with one win to their name, the Windies are placed at the bottom-most position, that is fifth, in their group. India and West Indies recently clashed at the Women’s tri-series in South Africa, which concluded last month. The Caribbean side failed to make it to the finals and lost all four contests, but India made it to the finals.

India and West Indies have clashed 20 times in T20Is, and the Women in Blue have won 12 out of the 20 matches. Interestingly, India are on a seven-match winning streak against West Indies in the shortest format. Thus, the Indian side would be the favourite to win the upcoming game while the Women in Maroon would be hoping to end the streak.

As for India, Radha Yadav looked in good touch with the ball in the previous game, while Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, and Shafali Verma did a fantastic job with the bat. As for the West Indies, skipper Hayley Matthews fared well with the bat in the previous contest, while the bowling unit looked shaky, and that is the area where they will have to work on.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town has typically assisted the spinners, but the previous game witnessed seamers taking advantage. Winning the toss, the skipper would look to chase the score as the batters get the best out of the pitch in the second half.
