The top-ranked team in the Women’s Premier League, Mumbai Indians, will cross swords against the struggling UP Warriorz. While the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai have outperformed in the tournament and are the only unbeaten team thus far with five wins from as many games, the Alyssa Healy-led Warriorz are third in the standings, with two wins from five games.
Mumbai Indians have done really well in the tournament, and with a victory in their previous game, they managed to seal the first playoff spot. Hence, the result of the upcoming game will not hinder Mumbai’s final hopes, but nevertheless, their aim would be to keep the winning streak alive and extend it to six.
The two sides last squared off in the 10th game of the tournament at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai’s Saika Ishaque, the Purple Cap holder, was at her best as she picked up three crucial wickets in the form of opposition openers Healy and Devika Vaidya, as well as all-rounder Tahlia McGrath. Thanks to the bowlers’ efforts, UP Warriorz finished their 20-over quote scoring 159 runs at the loss of six wickets.
In reply, Mumbai batters Yastika Bhatia, Nat Sciver Brunt, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur put up phenomenal performances, thereby leading the side to a victory in the 18th over. While Yastika and Nat Sciver scored 42 and 45* runs respectively, Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 53* and led her team from the front. UP Warriorz will be hungry for a win to go up on the points table, and thus the upcoming contest will be mouth-watering.
Pitch and Conditions
The surface at DY Patil provides great assistance to the batters. Mumbai, given their explosive batting lineup, will be aiming for another high-scoring game and put the offered conditions to the best use. A score of around 180-190 can be a winning total.
Probable Playing XI for MI-W vs UP-W
Mumbai Indians Women
Mumbai Indians would want to keep their winning momentum going in the tournament, and hence would not make any changes to their XI. They would likely go with the same XI that faced UP Warriorz in their previous contest and defeated the side by eight wickets.
Probable Playing XI: Yastika Bhatia (wk), Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Dhara Gujjar, Amelia Kerr, Issy Wong, Amanjot Kaur, Humaira Kazi, Jintimani Kalita, Saika Ishaque
UP Warriorz Women
UP Warriorz will be desperate for a victory when they go up against Mumbai Indians. But given Mumbai’s current form, it will not be easy for UP to break MI’s momentum. Alyssa Healy and Devika Vaidya need to give their side a proper start, and the middle-order batters need to score big too. The bowlers will have a big task upfront.
Probable Playing XI: Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Devika Vaidya, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Grace Harris, Shweta Sehrawat, Simran Shaikh, Sophie Ecclestone, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
