WPL 2024, Match 12: Delhi Capitals Women vs Mumbai Indians Women Match Preview

The 12th match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 promises to be a mouth-watering clash between table-toppers - Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. The two in-form teams are set to square off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This is going to be the first WPL match that is going to be played in Delhi. Two of the best teams in the competition are set to battle it out in a bid to claim the pole position on the points table.

Delhi are currently placed at the top of the table with three wins and one loss out of the four games they have played. Mumbai also have an identical win-loss record in the competition but are placed at No. 2 due to an inferior net run rate (NRR) compared to the Capitals.

The Capitals will be high on confidence as they are coming into the contest on the back of a hat-trick of wins following their defeat to Mumbai Indians in the curtain raiser. Meanwhile, Mumbai started with two wins before going down to UP Warriorz. However, they returned to winning ways with a comprehensive victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The last time these two sides met in the season opener, Delhi put on 171/5 in their 20 overs thanks to blistering knocks from Alice Capsey and Jemimah Rodrigues. However, Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur slammed half-centuries before Sajeevan Sajana hit a last-ball six off Capsey to help the defending champions win with four wickets to spare. Fans can expect another humdinger of a contest between the two star-studded sides.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report:

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) curators have had their share of struggles preparing the pitches with back-to-back tournaments taking place. The cricket board wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift the first couple of Delhi Capitals' IPL 2024 home games out of the city. The curators, reportedly, had a difficult time getting the pitches ready for the WPL due to Delhi's home games in the Ranji Trophy. Three home games of the state team were shifted out of the city. Arun Jaitley Stadium isn't the best track to bat on in the country. The ball can come slowly off the surface and spinners can have a huge say in the contest. Any score in excess of 160 will not be easy to chase down.

There is no real need for Delhi to change things around as they are on a three-match winning streak and have ticked most of the boxes so far. They have a deep batting line-up and the inclusion of the talented Titas Sadhu beefs up their bowling resources as well. It will be interesting to see if veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who has been in red-hot form, can make a comeback to the side. She reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury that ruled her out of Delhi's recent clash against Gujarat Giants. If fit, she could return in place of Sutherland.
