William Bosisto's brilliant knock of 63 off 32 balls went in vain as New York Lions CC defeated Houston Generals by seven runs at the University of Texas Dallas on Friday, October 10.
New York Lions won the toss and opted to bat first on Friday. While openers Jaskaran Malhotra and Emilio Gay were dismissed cheaply, Adam Rossington played well for his 26 off 18 balls. Rehman Dar also played the anchor's role decently, scoring an unbeaten 20 off 17 balls.
Jack Taylor and Dominique Rikhi were dismissed for single-digit scores. However, Benny Howell's whirlwind cameo of 20 off six balls propelled New York to 92/7 in their 10 overs. Howell smashed three sixes in his knock.
Saad Bin Zafar, James Fuller, and Adil Bhatti bagged two wickets apiece for Houston Generals CC in the first innings.
In reply, Houston Generals would have hoped for a solid start but Junaid Siddiqui sent opener Kennar Lewis packing in the second over. Bosisto played a gem of an innings, taking the attack to the New York bowlers and single-handedly taking his team towards the target.
However, New York did well to keep taking wickets from the other end. Bosisto needed someone to offer him a little bit of support but that didn't come his way. While the Australian batter smashed boundaries at will, no other Houston batter managed to get to double figures.
Skipper Wayne Parnell bowled the last over and picked up the wicket of Bosisto off the penultimate delivery. Houston lost the match by seven runs, being restricted to 85/7 in 10 overs. They remained at No. 3 on the points table, having registered two wins from as many games. On the other hand, New York stayed at No. 5 in the standings with two wins from five games.
