Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Russell smashed a record-breaking 139-run partnership, propelling West Indies to a competitive total of 220/6. Russell's explosive knock of 71 and disciplined bowling from the bowlers helped West Indies secure a 37-run victory over Australia, preventing a series whitewash in the three-match T20I series during the West Indies tour of Australia in 2024.

Earlier in the game, West Indies won the toss and elected to bat, but their start was shaky as they lost three early wickets for just 17 runs. However, Roston Chase and Rovman Powell steadied the ship with a crucial 55-run partnership. Unfortunately, Chase was dismissed for 37, and soon after, Powell departed for 21. Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Russell stepped up, stitching together a magnificent 139-run stand for the sixth wicket. Russell blasted a rapid 71 before being dismissed to Spencer Johnson, but Rutherford anchored the innings, finishing unbeaten on a well-made 67. West Indies eventually set a target of 221 for Australia to chase. It was a forgettable day for Adam Zampa, who conceded 65 runs in four overs while picking up one wicket.

In response to 221, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner provided a decent start for Australia, putting on 68 for the first wicket. Warner continued to attack, smashing 81 runs with nine fours and three sixes before being dismissed by Roston Chase. However, other batters struggled to capitalize, losing wickets and momentum except for Tim David, who played a blistering knock of 41 runs from 19 balls with a strike rate of 215.79. Ultimately, Australia fell short of the target by 37 runs. Despite the loss, Australia won the T20I series 2-1, while West Indies avoided a whitewash. Andre Russell earned the Player of the Match award for his explosive innings of 71 runs off 29 balls, while David Warner, with his series total of 173 runs, was named Player of the Series.
