The two have been in command and have rotated the strike while dispatching the ball to the fence whenever required. Smith joined Brook in the middle in just the second over of the day after a double-wicket over by Mohammed Siraj.

Siraj started the day quite brilliantly by dismissing Joe Root (22 off 46) and Ben Stokes off consecutive deliveries, with Rishabh Pant playing a role in both the wickets. The hosts were in the doldrums at 84 for 5 while trying to get close to India's mammoth first innings total of 587.

Earlier in the game, a splendid double ton by skipper Shubman Gill (269 off 387) led his side all the way in what was a thoroughly dominating performance by the visitors. Yashasvi Jaiswal (87 off 107) and Ravindra Jadeja (89 off 137) missed out on well-deserved hundreds.
