All-round India defeated Sri Lanka by 67 runs in 1st ODI in a high-scoring game at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
Asked to bat first, Indian openers had the best of the starts, scoring 143 runs for the first wicket inside 20 overs. The momentum was then carried by Virat Kohli who had a sublime run, registering his 45th century in 50 over format as India posted a huge total of 373/5 in 50 overs.
In response, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Dhananjaya and Nissanka shifted the momentum to some extent for Sri Lanka, however, Mohammad Shami took the breakthrough, picking Dhananjaya for 47.
Sri Lanka declined from thereon even though one end was strongly held by Dasun Shanaka, who scored his second ODI ton. Eventually, India took a 1-0 lead despite the hard-fought ton from Dasun Shanaka.
