Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh (BAN) will begin their World Cup campaign on a doubleheader Saturday, October 7 at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala against Hashmatullah Shahidi's Afghanistan while South Africa and Sri Lanka (SL) will play on the same day in Delhi.
The Bangla Tigers defeated Sri Lanka in their first warm-up fixture while they suffered a defeat at the hands of defending champions England in the second. On the other hand, Afghanistan’s first practice game with South Africa was abandoned due to rain while they also beat Sri Lanka in the next by six wickets (DLS Method).
The Tigers, who reached the quarter-final in the 2015 edition, will hope to start their 2023 proceedings on a high by beating the Afghans. The likes of Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim along with captain Shakib will look to do the bulk of the scoring while the bowling relies heavily on Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz is in good form in this format as he aims to continue it in the WC. An exciting Asian rivalry awaits the cricketing fans in the first doubleheader of the competition.
