Stats: Suryakumar Yadav shatters Sachin Tendulkar's record with most runs in a single IPL season for Mumbai Indians
Suryakumar Yadav scored 57 off 39 against Punjab Kings to take Mumbai Indians' total to 184/7.
Suryakumar Yadav has placed his name into Mumbai Indians' record books by surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar for the most runs scored by a MI batter in a single IPL season. The right-handed batter achieved the feat during the clash against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Tendulkar’s 618-run campaign in the 2010 season had been a record for 15 years. The batting icon finished as the Orange Cap holder as well that year. But in 2025, Suryakumar Yadav finally surpassed the figure. He had come close in 2023 with 605 runs, but this time, SKY finished the league stage with 640 runs and has the chance to pile up more runs with the team set to feature in the playoffs. With that, he became the first Mumbai Indians batter to score over 600 runs in multiple IPL seasons.

Notably, in the same innings, he also became the batter who has scored the most consecutive 25-plus innings (14) in T20s. He surpassed South Africa’s Temba Bavuma, who had 13 such scores in the 2019-2020 season.
The 34-year-old's record-breaking innings came in an important fixture against Punjab Kings, where MI were eyeing a top-two finish. Coming into bat at No. 3, he anchored the innings brilliantly and hammered a 38-ball 57 to help MI reach 184/7 in their allotted 20 overs. With his 640* runs in IPL 2025, Suryakumar now stands third on the overall run-scorers list for the season.

"The wicket was a little challenging. We practiced here last night, but it was sticky for pacers. Against spinners, it was fine. We fell 10–15 runs [short], but hope to defend this. A little bit of pace off and seam-up should work, it's a good fighting total. Sweep and flicks are my favourite shots from the inns, but batting till the end was important," Yadav told on air after his record-breaking knock.
