Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be waiting with bated breath to take on their arch-rivals Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It is one of the most awaited clashes of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024’s early season as Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir will cross paths again. The two cricket superstars haven’t had the greatest of relationships on the field as sparks have flown in the last decade.

Virat Kohli’s IPL records speak for itself and he has already confirmed his legendary status. After getting out early against Chennai Super Kings, the willow of Virat Kohli sparkled once again. His 77-run knock was the difference as RCB achieved a crucial win against Punjab Kings.

Over the years Virat Kohli has been involved in some huge battles with the bat against KKR. The former Indian skipper in-fact enjoys a fair share of success against the two time IPL winners whenever RCB have taken on KKR.

Virat Kohli’s overall record against KKR

Total Matches Played – 32

Runs Scored – 861

Batting Average – 35.88

Batting Strike Rate – 130

100/50 – 1/5

Memorable performance vs KKR

Virat Kohli scored his solitary century against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata at the Eden Gardens Stadium. His knock came off 58 balls with the then RCB skipper being out in the last ball of the innings. This knock helped RCB post their highest total of 213 vs KKR and win the match by 10 runs.

IPL 2023 saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru play Kolkata Knight Riders twice. In the first encounter, Virat Kohli scored 21 runs before falling to Sunil Narine. The return fixture saw Virat Kohli score 54 runs off 37 balls in a losing effort for his side.

Key Battles for Virat Kohli against Kolkata Knight Riders

Sunil Narine – In one of the biggest battles in the RCB vs KKR game, Virat Kohli will face his nemesis Sunil Narine once again. The West Indian spin maestro has had massive success against RCB’s run machine. With all his tricks and variations, Sunil Narine will be the most important battle for Virat Kohli on Friday.

Mitchell Starc – Australian pacer Mitchell Starc will renew his hostilities with Virat Kohli at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. For the first time Virat Kohli and Mitchell Starc will battle it out in the IPL. The left-arm pacer was a teammate of Virat Kohli for two years at RCB during IPL 2014 and 2015 seasons. Starc’s ability to swing the new ball and Kohli’s tendency to play away from his body could spell trouble for the RCB superstar.

Virat Kohli Records and Stats against KKR

The 861 runs scored by Virat Kohli is the most by an RCB batter against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Virat Kohli though is 4th in the list for the leading run-scorers against KKR with David Warner leading the list.

India and RCB’s former skipper is 4th with 861 runs behind Shikhar Dhawan at three and Rohit Sharma in the 2nd spot. Interestingly only two batters have scored centuries for RCB vs KKR with Chris Gayle being the first and Virat Kohli the 2nd batter to achieve this feat.
