What is India's record at Lord's in ODIs?

While Lord's has produced some of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket, the Men in Blue have struggled to consistently replicate that success in the 50-over format.

India will return to the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground for the third and final ODI against England on Sunday, July 19, with the three-match series finely poised at 1-1. After England bounced back with a four-wicket win in Cardiff, the series decider promises to be an exciting contest.

However, history is not on India's side at the Home of Cricket. While Lord's has produced some of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket, the Men in Blue have struggled to consistently replicate that success in the 50-over format. In fact, India has not won an ODI at the venue since 2004, making Sunday's clash an opportunity to end a 22-year wait for victory at the famous London ground.

India has played nine ODIs at Lord's so far, winning four, losing four, while one match ended in a tie. Lord's has been the venue for some of India's greatest achievements in cricket.

The first came in 1983, when Kapil Dev led India to their maiden ODI World Cup title with a memorable 43-run victory over the West Indies. That triumph transformed Indian cricket and remains one of the sport's defining moments.

Nearly two decades later, Lord's once again became the stage for an unforgettable Indian victory. Chasing 326 against England in the NatWest Series final in 2002, India recovered from 146/5 thanks to brilliant knocks from Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif. The thrilling two-wicket win was followed by Sourav Ganguly's iconic shirt-waving celebration from the Lord's balcony, one of the most celebrated images in Indian cricket history. India's most recent ODI victory at the venue came in September 2004, when they defeated England by 23 runs.

Since that win, India have found Lord's to be a difficult venue in ODI cricket. They suffered a seven-wicket defeat to England in 2007 before playing out a dramatic tied match in 2011. In the rain-affected contest, England finished exactly on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) par score, resulting in a rare tie.

The Men in Blue returned to Lord's in 2018, where they were beaten by 86 runs despite entering the series in good form. Their most recent appearance came in 2022, when England registered a comprehensive 100-run victory after defending 246 successfully.
