The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has reintroduced the Karnataka Premier League as the Maharaja Trophy T20, which will feature several renowned Karnataka players such as Manish Pandey, Devdutt Padikkal, Mayank Agarwal, and Abhinav Manohar.

The two-week T20 carnival promises to provide state-based cricketers and upcoming stars a platform to showcase their talent. The competition will be held in honour of the late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, who served as both the Maharaja of Mysore and the former president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

The competition will run from August 7 to August 26, 2022, with six teams competing for the stunning trophy – Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Shivamogga, Hubli, and Raichur. The live coverage of the Maharaja Trophy Twenty20 will be available on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports Kannada while FanCode and Paytm will be the streaming and ticketing partners respectively.

The Maharaja Trophy T20 Draft scheduled for July 30

This time around, the league will use a draft structure, which is likely to take place on July 30, Saturday where all the six main core groups, or think tanks as they are sometimes referred to, will be present. Prior to the player draft, the team will be informed of the sequence of the drafting structure for each round, which will be predetermined by artificial intelligence.

The tournament is open to all players who have enrolled with the KSCA and are qualified to represent Karnataka in BCCI senior domestic tournaments and are under the age of 35. The players are categorized into five groups for the player draft – Categories A-D and Catchment area players.

“Best players don’t come from big cities anymore, and young cricketers from small districts are going to represent the country. Thank you, sponsors; we won’t let you down”, KSCA President Roger Binny said.

The talent and skills in Karnataka have never been low, and the Maharaja Trophy T20 is unquestionably a significant stepping stone for any cricketer’s aspiration in the state since it has the ability to develop players.
