The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has made a decision to switch to online financial transactions in order to make direct payments to its cricketers at all levels. As a result, this new system will bring an end to issuing cheques to players for making a payment. Henceforth, all players, including domestic players and men and women cricketers at the senior and junior levels will be issued their payments online by the BCCI.

Up until now, the payment system required the board to issue out cheques to players with the given fees. These cheques were then passed on to the state associations which then handed it to individual players. However, recent reports have revealed that there have been discrepancies at the domestic level where state association office bearers were reported to have withheld payments to the players.

“All players will have to submit their KYC details and money will henceforth be credited straight into their accounts. There have been many instances of misconduct in the past. But we are only aware of the ones that have been reported. What about those which haven’t come under the spotlight? By making the payments online, we can at least be assured that all the players get their due payment and they don’t have to rely on their state associations,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to the Indian Express.

It is a known fact that teams which qualify for the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals receive a sum of Rs. 5 lakh from the BCCI which is then shared out equally among the players. However, players have reported that they are often not given their due amount.

The secretary of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Bikash Baruah was suspended last year for “alleged dereliction of duty and misconduct with players”. A total of 61 cheques issued by the BCCI to state players were reportedly recovered from Baruah after a disciplinary committee carried out an inspection.
