One of the most iconic names in Indian political history, former Foreign Minister Shrimati Sushma Swaraj passed away on Tuesday after suffering a sudden heart attack. She was 67. She was admitted in the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at 10.15 PM and the doctors confirmed the news of her death an hour later.

Owing to some of her health concerns and the kidney transplant which happened in 2016, she decided to not contest in the Lok Sabha elections this year but has been actively tweeting about the later happenings in the country. She even tweeted a few hours before her passing appreciating the Central government after the scrapping of section 370 from the Indian constitution.

At a very young age of 25, she became the youngest cabinet minister of Haryana and her political career had many iconic moments later on. She was also termed India’s most-loved politician by the US Daily Wall Street Journal for her remarkable work as the External affairs minister from 2014 to 2019. She was also the second woman since the legendary Indira Gandhi to hold the External affairs post.

Earned fame as the CM of Delhi

She began to earn fame throughout the country during her tenure as the chief minister of Delhi. She was the first female to do so. She also worked profusely with another iconic name from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She worked as the leader of the opposition on many occasions during the term of Indian National Congress.

On 19 February 2019, Ms. Swaraj accepted the prestigious Grand Cross of Order of Civil Merit, which was conferred by the Spanish government in recognition of India’s support in evacuating its citizens from Nepal during the earthquake in 2015. This was the period when she was beginning to gain global recognition for her remarkable works and was beginning to win the hearts of many Indians, regardless of which party they supported.

Doctors suggested the former cabinet minister to not pursue another term as a minister or an MP as she had to save herself from dust and stay safe from infection. The news of her sudden demise sent shockwaves across the country and moved the cricketing fraternity as well.

Here is how the cricketing world reacted to her untimely passing
