Talk about the legendary Bollywood actors of the 70s and 80s, Shashi Kapoor is a name that can never be ignored by anyone. With his unmatched grace and ability to portray the toughest of characters with ease, the youngest of the three Kapoor brothers took the country by a storm with his outstanding renditions in various films.
Shashi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on Monday evening, leaving the entire country in a mourning state. The actor-turned Producer was survived by his by his daughter Sanjana, and sons Kunal and Karan. The 79-year-old was on Dialysis for a long period of time and his nephew Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news.
“Yes, he has passed away. He had a kidney problem and was on dialysis for several years,” Randhir said. Younger brother to two other Bollywood icons Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, the pressure of nepotism allegations were always on the corner. But with films like Deewar (1975), ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ (1978), ‘Junoon’ (1978), ‘Shaan’ (1980), and ‘Namak Halaal’ (1982), he left an everlasting legacy behind him, standing at par with his brothers and his father Prithviraj Kapoor.
Grew up watching him: Sachin
Not just the film fraternity, but Shashi Kapoor was loved by each and every person in the country. The cricketing Universe was deeply mourning his loss and master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar quoted that he was a huge inspiration growing up. Tendulkar is an avid follower of films and he was actually named after a legendary Bollywood personality (Sachin Dev Burman).
Former opening batsman Virender Sehwag recalled one of his iconic dialogues from the Yash Chopra directorial “Deewar”, which still reverberates across every corner of the country. A movie that starred two of the greatest actors ever, Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor, the latter gave life to the dialogue “Mere paas Maa hai” and the film is touted as one of the cult classics in the history.
His demise left the country shocked and here’s how some of the Indian cricketers reacted.
